Zijin Mining College was co-founded this morning by Fuzhou University and Zijin Mining Group. This symbolizes the resumption of two specialties of geology and mining, which were suspended a couple of years ago. From this year, Zijin Mining College will recruit 40 students each for its two undergraduate programmes of resources investigation engineering and mining engineering. 50% of the students will be from Fujian and the rest from other provinces. According to this new college, it plans to start more programmes related to mining development in the future, like mineral processing, metallurgy engineering and mining machinery. Master’s and doctoral programmes are also included in the plan.

Tuesday, 400 Taiwan disciples from Lugang鹿港Mazu Temple, Zhanghua 漳化 of Taiwan, arrived at Meizhou Island of Putian to worship Mazu the goddess of the sea. This is the second time that Lugang Mazu Temple organizes large number of pilgrims to worship Meizhou Mazu Temple.

From twelve o’clock on June 1st, more than 700 fishing boats in Quanzhou entered once-in-a-year closed fishing season. Fishing is forbidden in all sea areas during the period. Anyone who commits an act in violation of the rule will be penalized 50,000 yuan at most.

June 5th is the World Environment Day. On Saturday morning, Fujian Environmental Protection Bureau held a ceremony for the promotion of “The World Environment Day and The New Century Environmental Protection Campaign”.
Volunteers of Fujian environmental protection attended the ceremony. They said environmental protection was critical. They called on industrial companies to reduce pollution, and appealed all the citizens to join the campaign against pollution.
