May 31 is the 20th World No Smoking Day. Monday morning, Fujian Provincial Department of Public Health held a symposium on the event. According to the meeting, this year, Fuzhou, Sanmin and Jiangle on northern part of the province have launched passive smoking monitoring in public places, a special smoke-control project subsidized by the central finance. Southern Fujian’s Zhangzhou and Longhai joined a smoking-control project: On the Way to No Smoking China, by China Disease Control Center, Union Medical College and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Related departments in Fujian have started monitoring and interference of passive smoking with the help of some international and personal organizations, expecting to learn from foreign experiences to promote smoking control in China.
